Sunflower Child

Sissy stood next to the tallest sunflower while I took her picture. A few weeks ago the stalk barely reached her shoulder. Today, it's a good two feet taller than her.

They grow so fast don't they? So much can happen when you're not paying attention.

You get distracted and look at them without really seeing them for days or sometimes weeks. Then suddenly you realize how much she's grown and you wonder how you could have blinked long enough for this beautiful, gangly, sunkissed girl to shoot up and all you want is for time to STOP because she's changing faster than you can keep up and you haven't memorized her face yet today, and before you know it tears are splashing on the keyboard even as you question why you DO this to yourself.....

Let's just say it's been a good summer for sunflowers. And butterflies.
