Morning Reading

This morning while I was drinking my coffee, Peanut asked if I would read her a book. Keith had just left for work and nobody else was out of bed. Normally, I would beg off book reading at that hour, with the excuse that I'm 'not awake enough yet'. I am NOT a morning person. I don't think I can stress that statement strongly enough. After coffee and a shower, I'm fairly civil. If I've had neither, everyone in my family knows not to speak to me. If I've had one of the two, speaking is allowed but meaningful conversation is taboo. My youngest daughter, who IS a morning person frequently forgets this.

So, blearily remembering my newfound convictions regarding time with my children, I told Peanut 'OK' and we spent the next thirty minutes finding objects in an I Spy book. We were only a few pages into it, and she was chattering about how Daddy had found the cowboy boot last time they read it, and how Pappaw helped her find the bird , when I realized I had never read this book with her. I remembered buying it two years earlier. Why hadn't I read this book with my kids? OK, water under the bridge, I was reading it now. And I was discovering that meaningful conversation IS possible after coffee but no shower. I was quite proud of myself, especially since it was only 10:30. ; )
