I really hate crowds of people in most situations. There are a few exceptions I can think of, but for the most part, I avoid crowds.
I also hate getting up early when I don't have to.
Those two little personal facts have kept me from shopping on Black Friday for years.
However, yesterday my mother called and invited the girls for a sleepover. She had rented Ratatouille for $1 (!!!) at a video store sale. So, being childless for the evening, my husband and I thought we should at least go scout around for Christmas gifts.
We only went to a couple of places, but we were largely uninspired. Everything appeared to be picked over. But then, what was I expecting at the tail end of Black Friday?
We didn't go home completely empty-handed though. There were smart purchases made. They were just more along the lines of basic necessities, than Christmas shopping.
Our great deals for Black Friday were:
2 gallons of milk at $3.31 each and
3 cartons of 18 eggs at .99 each
Yeah, I'm counting my savings all the way to the bank. And I didn't even have to get up early ; )

You sound like me. I refuse to go out in those crazy crowds! I found out a few years ago that going out early on the Saturday following black friday is wonderful. Nobody's out and the sales are still going on! So far, though, I don't have any idea what I'm giving anyone except my mom. I'm making her a CD of me playing hymns on my synthesizer. She's always complaining that her church no longer sings hymns, so I'm going to tell her to listen to this on the way to church each Sunday.
What a great gift! I'm sure she'll love it. My church still sings all hymns, except for occasionally a soloist will sing something more contemporary. I love all sacred music -- contemporary or traditional, but I'm like your Mom, I wold miss my favorite hymns if we never sang them.
That's so great, that you found some super deals on some everyday items. Finding a dozen and a half carton of eggs for .99 each is a steal. I had meant to purchase 2 dozen myself this week at Aldi but they had raised their prices from $1.19 a dozen to $1.69 a dozen. bummer:-(
I went out on Black Friday also. It was about 8:30 or so, but I didn't find anything worth spending my money on.
I am so greatful that I am no longer prone to impulse shopping during the holidays.
Nina enjoy your day. Thanks for visiting Proverbswife.com
